Alizarin Crimson Palette

This tube color has been on the chopping block for a while now. I’ve often been confused about when and how to use it. I think it is good for mixing nice transparent dark colors. Sometimes it’s a useful contributor to some interesting orange colors. These color mix studies have led me to decide to keep it on my palette in favor of cadmium red deep that will be dismissed.

Some nice deep brick colors are derived by mixing with the various reds and yellows. Some of the high key mixes result in some flesh tones that might work depending on colors that they would be adjacent to.  An interesting set of darks results when mixing with blues. The mid value ranges from about 25 to 75% are some nice greyed violet colors. Interesting slate and gunmetal colors are derived by mixing with Caribbean blue and white.
